CYNTHIA CHAPMAN

CYNTHIA CHAPMAN writes for stage and screen. Her full-length plays include SkyChef (Playwrights’ Center Core Apprentice Program Finalist) and House Rules. Monologues from both plays are published in She Persisted 100 Monologues by Women Over Forty by Applause (Nov. 2021). The Journey was a finalist for The Bridge Initiative's Bechdel Test Festival 2.0. following development with Megan Schy-Gleeson at MICHA’s International Festival’s Directors Lab as the invited playwright in-residence. Her plays have been produced by The Boston Theatre Marathon, The Warner International Playwrights Festival, New Urban Theatre Lab, A Shot of Theatre. Her 365 Women A Year play, Anna Sokolow: Truth in Motion, was selected for the Untold Stories of Jewish Women Festival in NYC. Mr. Roys’ Bicycle Repair Shop made the Top 25 Shorts in ISA’s 2020 Table Read My Screenplay Genre Competition. Cynthia trained as an actor, studying Meisner Method with Martin Barter and Gale Hansen; also Michael Beckett, Mary Anthony and Anna Sokolow at HB Studio, Gene Feist at the Roundabout Theatre Workshop, George Morrison and Michael Shurtleff. Cynthia taught scriptwriting for Emerson College’s Summer Program and was an invited Guest Artist at The Kennedy Center Playwrighting Intensive. Cynthia holds her MFA in Creative Writing for Stage and Screen from Lesley University, and is a member of the Dramatist Guild, Honor Roll!, Proscenium Playwrights and The 9th Floor, NYC.
